HDMI 1.4 is the latest HDMI version at the moment. When you compare with the HDMI 1.3 model, It comes with new features. Before buying a HDMI cat5 Extender or new 3d TV, you should know more about HDMI 1.4. I want to mention about this subject, because everbody confused about this.
What is HDMI 1.4 features ?
- HDMI Ethernet Channel
- Audio Return Channel
- 3D Support
- 4K Support
- Expanded Support for Color Spaces
- Micro HDMI Connector (Type D )
- Automotive Connection System ( Type E )
HDMI Ethernet Channel
This option allows an Internet-ready HDMI device to share it’s internet connection with other HDMI devices without the need for an extra network cable. Data speed between connected devices can be 100 mb/s like ordinary computer systems. But, You can’t use HDMI 1.3 Extender and HDMI ver 1.3 cable for this functionality. You have to buy new equipments that support HDMI ver 1.4 .
Audio Return Channel
If your HDTV has a built-in tuner, DVD player, or other digital content source, the Audio Return Channel allows the TV to send audio data to your A/V receiver, eliminating the need for a separate audio cable in this type of configuration. Audio Return Channel-enabled devices can be connected via the existing HDMI ver 1.3 cables.
3D video requires high data throughput, so you’ll need to use a High Speed version HDMI cable. Ver 1.3 HDMI Cable can be used for 3DTV. 3DTV signal level is nearly two 1080p signals. In order to work properly, shorter HDMI cables must be used. So, quality HDMI Cat5 extender should be selected.
It is big screen support. (4096 pixels wide by 2160 pixels high)
Expanded Support for Color Spaces
New color schema support ( sYCC601 color, Adobe RGB color, Adobe YCC601 color ) for Digital Cameras.
Micro HDMI Connector (Type D )
It is a mini hdmi socket used from mobile phones, portable media players, digital cameras or any portable device. But their output limited to 1080p. This new connector is nearly 50% smaller than the size of the existing HDMI Mini Connector.
Automotive Connection System (Type E)
New cable and connection socket, used for automotive equipments and not important for home users.
All other HDMI 1.4 features are supported from the HDMI ver 1.3 devices. Devices built to the HDMI 1.4 specification will be fully backwards-compatible with existing HDMI devices and their features.
As a result, if the above features doesn’t affect you, you can use any HDMI Cat5 extender ver 1.3 equipment with your 3d HDTV.
